Graphite ore flotation process

Graphite ore flotation process

Flotation method is currently a commonly used and popular graphite purification method, because graphite itself has good hydrophobicity and floatability, so conventional graphite ores can be purified using flotation method. The main method is to enrich the target minerals in the gas-liquid interface through flotation agents, achieving the separation of impurity minerals and target minerals, and thus achieving the goal of purification. During the purification process of graphite, in order to protect the large scales in the graphite, a process flow of multi grinding, multi selection, and coarse concentrate re grinding and re selection is generally adopted in the process.

Process flow

  • 1.Raw ore crushing:Crushing graphite raw ore into smaller particles for subsequent flotation processes.
  • 2.Grinding:Grinding the crushed raw ore to achieve appropriate fineness, which is beneficial for the contact between the flotation agent and the mineral surface.
  • 3.Mixing:Mix the ground slurry with an appropriate amount of water and add a mixing agent to adjust the properties of the slurry, such as pH value and ion strength.
  • 4.Flotation:Inject the slurry after mixing into the flotation machine. In the flotation machine, the flotation agent is added, and the minerals in the pulp interact with the flotation agent to form foam products. The minerals in foam products have high floatability and can be separated by foam.
  • 5.Collection of foam products:collect the flotation foam products for further processing to obtain high-grade graphite.
  • 6.Concentrate treatment:the collected foam products are further treated, such as concentration, drying, etc., to finally obtain high-grade graphite products.

Technological advantages

  • 1.Efficient Separation:The flotation process can effectively separate graphite from the original graphite ore, improving the degree of graphite enrichment.
  • 2.Low reagent consumption:The consumption of foaming agents, collectors, and inhibitors used in flotation methods is relatively low, reducing production costs.
  • 3.Low cost:Due to the low consumption of reagents, the overall operating cost of flotation method is also relatively low, which improves economic benefits.
  • 4.High purification grade:The flotation method can increase the graphite grade to around 80% -90%, or even above 95%, meeting the needs of different application fields for graphite grade.
  • 5.Environmental Protection:The flotation agents used in the flotation process are relatively environmentally friendly and have a relatively small impact on the environment.
  • 6.Wide applicability:The flotation process is suitable for various types of graphite ores and can process ores with different particle sizes and compositions.
  • Graphite flotation is an efficient, environmentally friendly, and low-cost graphite purification method that can improve the grade and purity of graphite, while also having good economic and environmental benefits.
